What To Expect When Having A Neck Adjustment

Blog

If you suffer from chronic neck pain and you do not have an injury causing it, going to a chiropractor is beneficial in receiving help to ease some of the discomforts you are experiencing. A cervical manipulation procedure is known to help increase the range of motion you have with your neck, as well as help with headaches and aching in the top of the spine and neck areas. Here is a summary of what you can expect if you go to a chiropractor to have a neck adjustment.

Evaluating The Problem

When you first see a chiropractor for a neck problem, they will do tests to make sure the pain is not caused by a fracture or a disease, as their methods would not treat the pain in these instances. You may need to have an X-ray, a CAT scan or an MRI to determine what is causing the pain so the right methods of treatment are administered.

The chiropractor will ask you several questions about your pain intensity level and when it bothers you most. Your range of motion and posture are checked, as well as the curvature of the spine. The chiropractor will administer neurological tests to check your muscle strength and reflexes.

Administering Help

When the chiropractor determines the area of the neck having difficulties, they will use their hands to relieve the pain. Chiropractors are trained to use several different movements to shift the pressure within the neck, allowing the area to feel looser and to move without restriction. They know where to place their hands on your neck and how to shift the muscles and bones inside to relieve pain.

When you have this procedure done, you may hear a small popping sound, such as how it sounds when you crack your knuckles. This is caused by the change in pressure around the joints being moved, and it is not painful in any way.

Feeling The Benefits

After a neck adjustment is done, you may notice that you are able to move your head back and forth without any pain whatsoever. Your range of motion will usually improve, as well. Many people find that their overall health improves after having a neck adjustment done. This is because it is believed that the bones in the neck and spine are connected to the well-being of the organs within the body. You may find that other ailments that were troublesome also let up in intensity after having a cervical manipulation session.

Getting Serious About Your Back Pain

Do you remember the first day you woke up with back pain? If you are like most folks, you probably tried to write off the problem until you realized that the issue was impacting your mobility. Back pain is serious, but not everyone takes the issue seriously at first. Not only can a little back spasm make it hard to shower, walk, or even sit comfortably, but back pain can also be a symptom of a deeper problem. The goal of my blog is to educate the public about back pain, so that you know how to tell when you are really in trouble.
